Rwanda’s Pension Fund Lunches Digital Platform For Medical Insurance

Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) has announced that it is rolling out an innovative digital system, “๐‘๐’๐’๐ ๐Š๐–๐ˆ๐•๐”๐™๐€” that will revolutionize medical insurance services nationwide.

The pilot program has been running for three months, providing services to 35 Health Posts and Health Centers that are onboarded.

Details of the system were shared on RSSB’s twitter handle on Saturday afternoon, April 1.

The new platform also began operating today, April 1, 2023, starting with all Primary Healthcare Facilities.

It will streamline medical operations, simplify payment processes and facilitate data-driven decision making. It is expected that payments for medical invoices will be made in 15 days.

It will reduce the need for papers and time-consuming steps, speed up invoice preparation by the service provider and approval of services by RSSB medical verification officers.

It will also address inefficiencies and reduce errors associated with paper-based processes.

Currently, the system covers Mutuelle de Santรฉ services, with plans to include RAMA and the upper levels of healthcare such as District, and Provincial Hospitals, Private Hospitals, Clinics, Polyclinics, and Pharmacies by the end of the year.

It is projected that RSSB will be receiving electronically 96% of Mutuelle de Santรฉ invoices by May 2023 as all medical facilities will be invoicing via the system.

So far, RSSB has trained over 1000 Primary Healthcare Facilities countrywide on the use of the system.

๐‘๐’๐’๐ ๐Š๐–๐ˆ๐•๐”๐™๐€ is part of the ongoing strategy to digitalize RSSB processes to provide more convenience to its members at all service touch points.

It will significantly improve service efficiency by reducing the lag time between billing and processing payments.

Meanwhile, this platform follows another launched beginning of February.

On February 3, RSSB launched a cutting-edge platform designed to empower members with enhanced visibility of their pension contributions.

The platform, โ€˜Imisanzuโ€™ (www.imisanzu.rssb.rw) offers a seamless and convenient solution for members to access their social security contributions and benefits.

With increased transparency and visibility, the need for in-person visits to RSSB branches is minimized.

The platform is designed to provide 24/7 self-service access to members. The platform is fully built in-house, ensuring the security and privacy of membersโ€™ information.

Last year, RSSB management told journalists that it is planning to roll out a lot of innovations and modernising the pension fund.
