This morning, Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe held a comprehensive diplomatic briefing to discuss recent developments in the region and outline upcoming events.
The briefing, held in Kigali, was attended by members of the diplomatic corps and other key stakeholders.
During the briefing, Minister Nduhungirehe provided insights into the latest political, economic, and social developments within the region, highlighting Rwanda’s role and contributions towards regional stability and growth.
A key highlight of the briefing was the introduction of Dr. Richard Mihigo to the diplomatic community in Kigali. Dr. Mihigo is Rwanda’s nominated candidate for the position of Regional Director of the World Health Organization’s Africa Region (WHO AFRO).
With extensive experience in public health and a strong track record of leadership, Dr. Mihigo’s nomination is seen as a significant step in advancing Rwanda’s commitment to global health initiatives.
Minister Nduhungirehe expressed confidence in Dr. Mihigo’s ability to lead WHO AFRO, citing his expertise and dedication to improving health outcomes across the African continent.
“Dr. Mihigo’s candidacy reflects Rwanda’s commitment to contributing to the global health agenda and addressing critical health challenges in Africa,” said the minister.
The briefing covered several critical topics, including the just-concluded national election and the upcoming inauguration. Minister Nduhungirehe elaborated on the election’s smooth execution and emphasized the significance of the forthcoming inauguration for Rwanda’s democratic process.
In addressing the situation in eastern DRC, the minister called for continued regional cooperation and international support to resolve the ongoing conflict.
He highlighted Rwanda’s commitment to peace and security in the region, noting the country’s active contributions to peacekeeping missions in Mozambique and the Central African Republic (CAR).
Minister Nduhungirehe also spoke about the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to take place in Samoa.
