Rwandan Isange One Stop Centre Hosts Commonwealth Parliamentarians for Gender-Based Violence Training

Shafiga Murebwayire, the head of the Gender-Based Violence Crimes Division and the coordinator of the Isange One Stop Centre, welcomed a delegation of female Members of Parliament from across the Commonwealth today.

The delegation, comprising representatives from Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, is in Rwanda to participate in a training session focused on inclusive development and social welfare, aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for both women and men.

The visit underscores the growing international interest in Rwanda’s approach to gender equality and social inclusion.

The parliamentarians’ mission was to explore how Rwanda’s Isange One Stop Centre delivers integrated services to survivors of gender-based violence, providing a model that could be adapted across the Commonwealth.

Isange One Stop Centre is renowned for offering a comprehensive support system that addresses the legal, medical, and psychological needs of survivors of gender-based violence, with a focus on providing immediate care and long-term recovery.

Murebwayire emphasized the importance of such integrated services, calling them crucial in fostering an environment where all citizens—especially vulnerable women and children—can thrive in safety and dignity.

The delegation expressed their appreciation for Rwanda’s efforts in addressing gender-based violence and highlighted the potential for such programs to be implemented across other Commonwealth nations.

Renowned for its leadership in promoting gender equality, Rwanda’s model serves as a beacon for other nations working towards social justice and inclusion.

This exchange reflects the broader commitment of the Commonwealth to combat gender-based violence and promote human rights for all.
