Dozens of leaders from different countries have arrived in Rwandan capital Kigali ahead of the 30th commemoration of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
“We solemnly prepare to honour the memory of over a million lives killed. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring their legacy lives on in our hearts and actions,” reads in part a statement by Kigali Genocide Memorial.
“Starting a week-long period of mourning and 100 days of commemoration, the Kigali Genocide Memorial will host events such as wreath-laying and the lighting of the Flame of Remembrance.Events will continue with Kwibuka30 National event at the BK Arena, which will unite dignitaries, including heads of states, cabinet members, diplomats, international organisations, Genocide survivors, and the youth,” the Kigali Genocide Memorial added.
“Thank you President Paul Kagame for the warm welcome to Kigali. I am pleased to witness the development of your country and commend you for sustaining it. Both our nations are making great efforts in the field of agriculture and entails collaboration in cascading our positive efforts into the region,” said Abiy Ahmed Ali Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
