Rwanda is poised to welcome over 2,000 delegates from across Africa and beyond as it hosts the 8th Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA 2025), taking place from May 6 to 9 at the Kigali Convention Centre.
The event is jointly organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) and the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA).
ACOA 2025 will convene under the theme “Creating Value for Africa,” reflecting a shared commitment to redefining the role of accountancy in promoting sustainable economic transformation on the continent.
For Rwanda, this event marks a major milestone in its ambition to position itself as a leading financial and professional services hub in Africa.
Kicking off on May 5 with a pre-congress event titled “PAFA Forum to Advance Women in Accountancy – Breaking Barriers, Building Influence,” the congress will begin in earnest on May 6 with four days of high-level sessions, workshops, and networking.
“This congress represents more than just a gathering of professionals. It’s an incentive for African financial leadership,” said Mr. Amin Miramango, CEO of ICPAR. “Our profession must evolve beyond numbers to become true architects of sustainable prosperity for Africa.”
The program will feature an impressive lineup of speakers, including heads of international accounting standards-setting bodies, policymakers, and industry leaders.
Topics to be addressed include the future of financial reporting, the role of AI and digital innovation in accountancy, sustainability reporting, and the implications of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for financial practices.
Highlighting the importance of the event, ICPAR President Obadiah Biraro stated, “In a world where financial systems are increasingly interconnected, taking ownership of developing our profession is not something we can ask others to do for us.
Hosting ACOA is an indication that Rwanda’s perspective matters, that our innovations merit attention, and that our solutions have relevance in the global accounting ecosystem.”
ACOA 2025 is structured around three core pillars:
• Professional Excellence: Promoting ethical practices, continuous learning, and adherence to international standards.
• Technological Advancement: Embracing AI and digital tools as allies in delivering future-ready solutions.
• Sustainable Impact: Fostering environmental and social accountability in the profession.
The congress follows Rwanda’s successful hosting of the 4th East African Congress of Accountants (EACOA) in 2024, further cementing the country’s reputation for staging high-level regional and continental events.
Members of the media are invited to attend the opening ceremony on May 6, with press facilities and daily briefings available throughout the event.
