The Congolese aeronautical authorities have banned all Rwandan registered aircrafts from flying over the DRC according to a presser issued on Tuesday.
According to Kinshasa regime, the ban is attributed to the ongoing situation in Eastern DRC.
“Formal ban on overflight and landing on the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo for any civil and state aircraft registered in Rwanda or registered elsewhere but based in Rwanda, due to the insecurity situation linked to the armed conflict,” reads part of the presser.
On February 8, leaders from East African Community (EAC) and the 16-member Southern African Development Community (SADC) gathered in Tanzania to address the conflict in eastern Congo following the capture of Goma by M23 rebels.
The summit directed the resumption of direct negotiations with all parties involved, including M23 rebels, under the Luanda-Nairobi framework.
The joint declaration, EAC and SADC leaders directed defense chiefs from both blocs to meet within five days to assist in “enforcing an immediate, unconditional ceasefire and cessation of hostilities.
It added that a joint meeting of EAC and SADC ministers will be convened within 30 days to review the progress of the defense chiefs’ directives.
