Rwanda Prime Minister Attends Lesotho’s Bicentennial Celebrations

Dr. Édouard Ngirente, the Prime Minister of Rwanda on Friday attended the celebrations marking 200 years of the founding of Basotho Nation.

Simillary Lesotho attained independence from South Africa on 4-October, 1966.

“Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente delivered a special message from President Kagame to King Letsie III on the occasion of Lesotho’s bicentennial celebration,” the office of the Prime Minister said.

“Additionally, he held a meeting with Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, during which a General Cooperation Agreement was signed between the two governments,” it added.

With a population of 2.3million inhabitants and GDP 2.237 billion U$, Lesotho of 30,355 km² is slightly bigger than Rwanda of 26,338 km².

Last year the Government of Lesotho launched the bicentenary which is celebrating an anniversary of 200 years since King Moshoeshoe I formed Basotho nation.

According to historians, the Basotho nation was formed with different clans being Bakuena, Bataung, Batlokoa, Makhoakhoa, Bafokeng and many other clans.

Lesotho and Rwanda Representatives sign a General Cooperation Agreement between the two governments.
