Rwanda Police Teams Shine at 5th EAPCCO Games in Addis Ababa

The spirit of regional unity and sportsmanship reached its peak as the 5th Edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) Games came to a successful close at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa.

Throughout the competition, Rwanda stood tall among the region’s finest, with its athletes competing in Handball, Taekwondo, and Shooting.

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) delegation, led by Inspector General CG Felix Namuhoranye and joined by Rwanda’s envoy to Ethiopia, Amb. Charles Karamba, played a visible and commendable role throughout the event.

The EAPCCO Games, known for bringing together police forces from across Eastern Africa, once again proved to be more than just a sports tournament.

They were a platform for fostering regional cooperation, building friendships across borders, and reinforcing the values of discipline, teamwork, and mutual respect.

Late in the afternoon after the conclusion of the games, taking time off from his working visit on Ethiopia bilateral police matters and EAPCCO engagements, IGP Namuhoranye visited the Rwanda Embassy in Addis Ababa.

There, he met and interacted with the Embassy team, reflecting on the broader mission they all serve.

He urged the team to remain steadfast in their duties, emphasizing that their unwavering commitment to service—whether within Rwanda or abroad—is a vital ingredient in the nation’s ongoing development.

The Inspector General also commended the team spirit demonstrated by the RNP athletes and lauded the support extended by the Embassy staff, noting that both elements contributed meaningfully to the Rwandan contingent’s excellent performance.

Rwanda’s participation not only showcased athletic excellence but also highlighted its broader commitment to regional peace and security.

The presence of top police leadership throughout the tournament underscored the importance the country places on sports diplomacy and unity through action.

Held under the banner of strengthening police cooperation through sports, the games brought together thousands of participants and spectators in a celebration of shared values and collective strength.

Backed by institutions such as INTERPOL and supported by the African Union, the event was a powerful reminder that trust among security institutions is built not only in boardrooms but also on the fields of friendly competition.

As the curtains fall on this edition, Rwanda returns home with its head held high—not just for the medals earned, but for the spirit of partnership and excellence displayed.

The EAPCCO Games may have ended, but the friendships, memories, and shared mission of cooperation live on.
