Rwanda and Luxembourg have signed a €12 million (Frw 16.7 billion) grant agreement aimed at enhancing the resilience of forests and the communities they support.
This partnership focuses on boosting sustainable biomass production for cooking and promoting the use of improved cookstoves to fight climate change.
The funds will support the cultivation of fast-growing tree species and other sustainable biomass resources to reduce deforestation and ensure a steady supply of biomass for cooking.
Additionally, the grant will fund the promotion and distribution of improved cookstoves, which use less fuel and produce less smoke, benefiting both the environment and public health.
Rwanda’s Minister of Finance, Yusuf Murangwa expressed gratitude for Luxembourg’s support.
He said that this grant agreement marks a significant milestone in Rwanda’s efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
The support from Luxembourg will help us to protect our forests, improve public health, and enhance the resilience of our communities.
Luxembourg’s Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, emphasized the importance of international cooperation.
He said that Luxembourg is committed to supporting sustainable development initiatives around the world.
