Rwanda and Eswatini have signed several key agreements aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The Memoranda of Understanding, signed by President Paul Kagame and His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini at Urugwiro Village, cover areas including Defense, Police Cooperation, Correction Services, and Visa Exemption for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports.
The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone in the relationship between Rwanda and Eswatini, reflecting a mutual commitment to deepen and expand cooperation.
President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame officially welcomed King Mswati III and Inkhosikati Make LaMashwama at Urugwiro Village, where the King inspected the Guard of Honour before engaging in a private tête-à-tête with President Kagame.
“Your Majesty, I would like to thank you for joining all Rwandans for the inauguration ceremony. We are very grateful for your presence. From this visit, it is evident that Rwanda and Eswatini are very good friends, and we want to keep it that way and even go further. Moving forward, we also want to strengthen our bonds of cooperation. That is the purpose of the agreements signed today,” said President Kagame.
The agreements signed are build on a history of high-level visits and exchanges between the two countries, establishing a solid foundation for future cooperation. President Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s eagerness to share its experiences in national transformation and to learn from Eswatini.
“Over the years, several high-level visits have been undertaken in Rwanda and Eswatini by our respective delegations. This is a good foundation to build on. In Rwanda, we are very eager to share with partners and friends, such as Eswatini, our experience in the transformation journey of our country,” he added.
The official visit by His Majesty King Mswati III, which follows his participation in the 2024 Inauguration ceremony, aims to further enhance the growing bilateral relationship between Rwanda and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
As part of the visit, First Lady Jeannette Kagame welcomed Inkhosikati Make LaMashwama to the Imbuto Foundation Offices for discussions on improving community welfare through the work of their respective foundations.
They discussed the importance of cross-continental cooperation and exchange to maximize the impact of people-centered interventions.
The visit also included a tour of the EZA Early Childhood Development Centre at Urugwiro Village, showcasing Rwanda’s commitment to improving early education and child welfare.
This exchange provided an opportunity to share best practices and insights on how to strengthen similar programs in Eswatini and beyond.
The agreements signed during this visit signify a new chapter in the partnership between Rwanda and Eswatini, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and mutual development.
