Rwanda is deepening diplomatic ties with Algeria, one of its key African allies, at a time when the country seeks efforts to address the ongoing conflict in the aggressive and hostile neighbour, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, held talks on Monday afternoon with Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, H.E. Ahmed Attaf. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing security concerns in the Great Lakes region.
According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exchange highlighted the role of regional partnerships in promoting stability. Algeria, recognized for its diplomatic influence in Africa, continues to engage in peace and security initiatives across the continent.
These high-level engagements come at a time when Rwanda faces growing threats from regional aggressors, including the DRC, Burundi, and South Africa.
The renewed cooperation with Algeria aligns with Rwanda’s broader strategy to engage key African partners in finding sustainable solutions to escalating tensions. Strengthening diplomatic ties with Algeria is expected to contribute to regional stability and reinforce Rwanda’s position in continental security efforts.
