Rotary International President Gordon McInally has embarked on a historic visit to Rwanda, reinforcing the partnership between Rotary International and the Government of Rwanda.
President McInally’s visit marks the third time an RI President has visited the country and underscores Rotary’s commitment to sustainable development and humanitarian efforts in Rwanda.
During the first quarter of 2024, Rotary in Rwanda has witnessed significant growth with the establishment of 2 new Rotary Clubs, 1 Rotaract Club, and 2 Interact Clubs, boasting a total of more than 250 active members nationwide.
These clubs serve as catalysts for community engagement and empowerment, driving positive change across various sectors.
Rotary Rwanda’s impact extends beyond its membership growth.
The organization has played a pivotal role in eradicating polio in Rwanda, contributing to the country’s status as a polio-free nation for the past 30 years.
This achievement highlights Rotary’s dedication to global health initiatives and its partnership with the World Health Organization in combating infectious diseases.
With 12 Rotary Clubs operating in Rwanda, the organization has been at the forefront of financing key development projects totaling more than US$3.5 million.
These projects encompass a wide range of focus areas, including disease prevention and treatment, clean water and sanitation, maternal and child health, education, economic development, and environmental conservation.
President McInally’s visit aims to strengthen the bond between Rotary International and Rwanda, aligning with Rotary’s core values of Service above Self.
The visit underscores Rotary’s commitment to advancing peace, promoting conflict prevention, and supporting community-based solutions to global challenges.
As part of his itinerary, President McInally will pay tribute to Rwanda’s resilience and progress by visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial ahead of the 30th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in April 2024.
Additionally, he will engage with local leaders and visit Rotary-supported projects, including the Kinyinya Rotary House for Cancer Patients, the Rotary Peace Project in Bugesera, and initiatives in the health and education sectors.
