On Friday, the Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Jeannot Ruhunga, held a crucial meeting with General Alaaeldin Mohamed Abdullah Ragab, a prominent member of the INTERPOL Executive Committee and the Delegate for Africa.
The discussions, which took place in Kigali, centered on bolstering cooperation among African INTERPOL member countries in the ongoing battle against transnational organized crimes.
During the meeting, both officials underscored the importance of enhanced collaboration and intelligence sharing between African nations.
They emphasized that, in light of the increasingly sophisticated nature of transnational crimes, particularly those involving human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cybercrime, unified efforts are critical to effectively address these challenges.
General Ragab highlighted the vital role INTERPOL plays in facilitating this collaboration, offering a platform for member countries to coordinate and strengthen their efforts.
He expressed confidence in the ability of African nations to combat organized crime through mutual support and strategic partnerships.
Secretary General Ruhunga reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to contributing to regional and global security, particularly through active participation in INTERPOL’s initiatives.
He noted that Rwanda’s law enforcement agencies are fully engaged in leveraging international cooperation to enhance national and regional security.
The meeting concluded with both leaders agreeing on the need for continued dialogue and collaboration to ensure that African nations are well-equipped to tackle the evolving threats posed by transnational organized crime.
This meeting is seen as a significant step towards fostering stronger ties among INTERPOL member countries in Africa, enhancing their collective capacity to safeguard their citizens and secure their borders.
