RIB Arrests Two Ngororero District Officials Over Corruption Charges

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has apprehended two senior officials from Ngororero District on charges of corruption.

Muberantwari Reverien, the Head of Infrastructure, Construction, and Land, and Niyihaba Thomas, the Executive Secretary of Nyange Sector, are under investigation for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes and falsifying documents regarding citizens’ properties damaged during the repair of the Rambura – Nyange road.

According to RIB, the arrests were made following reports that the two officials had engaged in corrupt practices, including the manipulation of documents related to the compensation of citizens whose properties were affected by the road repairs.

The accused are currently detained at the RIB station in Kabaya as their case files are being prepared for submission to the Prosecutor’s Office.

In a statement, RIB emphasized its commitment to fighting corruption and warned public officials against abusing their positions for personal gain.

“We urge all individuals entrusted with public duties to steer clear of corrupt activities. Corruption undermines the nation’s development and the public’s trust in government institutions,” the statement read.

RIB also extended its gratitude to the citizens who provided information leading to the arrests. “We commend the vigilance of those who report corruption and misconduct. Their actions are crucial in promoting transparency and accountability within our institutions,” RIB added.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by RIB to tackle corruption and uphold integrity within public service.

The bureau continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities, ensuring that all citizens contribute to the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance.
