Rayon Sports Sends Al Wau Salaam Back Home

Burundian player Pierrot Kwizera and Malian striker Moussa Camara secured victory for ten-men Rayon Sport after Ange Mukunzi was sent off the field in the second leg of the preliminary CAF-Confederation at Amahoro Stadium last evening.

Just 19 minutes into the game, Mutsinzi was sent off because of a reckless tackle on the Al Wau Salaam player. Left footed Kwizera netted through a 30-yards free kick charge in the 28th minute to put Rayon in the lead in the first half.

South Sudanese side Al Wau Salaamu who appeared in their first CAF- Confederation tournament tried to break the deadlock with skipper Olivier Kangi and sent a shot into Jean Luc Bakame’s hands on the 36th minute.

Camara missed three good chances that would see his side raise the score for his side when Wau Salaamu goalie Robert Amadio denied him the opportunity. With just nine minutes left to the final whistle, Camara’s hard effort paid off when he sliced in a header from a cross making to make it two, leaving Amadio standing between the posts.

Despite going down 2-0, the Sudanese side tried to get a consolation in the three extra minutes when Ahamefule Nnadozie sent a thunderous shot, unfortunately it was off target.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports maintain a hardball defence, and a well-organized system conceding no goal in the two legs. The only frustration from Coach Djuma Masudi is the inability to rack goals and consistent attack basis just like in the first leg that saw the Rwandan league table leaders win 4-0 away in Juba.

The Peace Cup holders Rayon qualify to the first round with a 6-0 goal aggregate victory, their biggest victory in a CAF competition. Rayon Sport will now face AS Onze Createures de Niarela of Mali in March.
