Qatar Scoops “Arab AI Champion” Award

Qatar has been crowned “Arab AI Champion” and claimed three top positions with distinguished awards in the fourth edition of the Arab Olympiad for Artificial Intelligence, organized by STEAM Center and the Arab Robotics and AI Association in Jordan.

Featuring over 300 students representing 200 teams from various Arab countries, the competitions saw a distinguished participation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with two teams comprising 14 students from seven Qatari schools, all of whom advanced to the finals.

The first team won the title of Arab Champion of AI Olympiad and received a U$1,000 cash prize.

The first team competed in various disciplines, including cybersecurity, programming, computer vision, machine learning, and embedded systems.

Meanwhile, the second team secured first place in machine learning and third place in both cybersecurity and computer vision.

The competition is a prestigious annual Arab platform designed to discover and develop students’ skills in programming and advanced technology across five core disciplines: programming, cybersecurity, computer vision, machine learning, and embedded systems.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by the IT Department in the Educational Guidance Department, implemented an intensive qualification program, selecting students from the National Olympiad for Programming, AI and Cybersecurity and organizing an internal training camp with 25 hours of specialized training per discipline, utilizing multiple programming languages and advanced training platforms.

The ministry continues its efforts to prepare students for international competitions, supporting school-based coding and programming clubs, organizing hackathons in collaboration with the Qatar Computing Research Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and running specialized training camps.

This outstanding participation aligns with the Ministry’s vision on entrepreneurial learners for sustainable development, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing a creative generation equipped with AI and programming skills, contributing to Qatar’s digital transformation journey.
