Prime Minister Dr. Édouard Ngirente held significant meetings today with top executives from YARA International and the Rockefeller Foundation to discuss key initiatives aimed at enhancing Rwanda’s agricultural sector and improving nutrition for school children.
In a meeting with Mr. Luis Alfredo Pérez, Senior Vice President for Africa at YARA International, the discussions centered on increasing the use of fertilizers in Rwanda.
The two leaders explored ways to enhance fertilizer accessibility and usage among Rwandan farmers to boost agricultural productivity and support the country’s food security goals.
YARA International, a global leader in fertilizer production and distribution, is expected to collaborate closely with Rwanda in implementing these strategies.
Later, Dr. Ngirente met with Dr. Roy Steiner, Senior Vice President for the Food Initiative at the Rockefeller Foundation. Their discussions focused on the school feeding program in Rwanda, with a particular emphasis on incorporating fortified whole grains into school meals.
This initiative aims to provide nutritious food for children, improving their health and academic performance.
These meetings highlight Rwanda’s commitment to addressing both agricultural productivity and child nutrition through strategic partnerships with global leaders.
By enhancing fertilizer use and integrating fortified foods into school meals, Rwanda is taking significant steps toward sustainable development and improving the well-being of its citizens.
