DRC’s leader Felix Tshisekedi has publicly accused his predecessor Joseph Kabila of being behind the Congo River Alliance (AFC), a political-military movement led by Corneille Nangaa.
“Joseph Kabila? The AFC is him. He boycotted the elections and is preparing an insurrection,” Tshisekedi said during an interview hosted on Top Congo FM on Tuesday in Brussels.
Felix Tshisekedi’s statements come as political tensions continue to escalate in the DRC.
The Secretary General of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS/Tshisekedi), Augustin Kabuya, had also reaffirmed in April that Joseph Kabila was involved in the AFC movement.
During a meeting at the UDPS headquarters, Mr. Kabuya had denounced the attitude of certain political parties that he accused of having joined the rebellion after having failed to resist in the opposition.
“Enduring the suffering of the opposition is not given to everyone. When I told you that the Nangaa affair was Kabila’s, some murmured, but it is the truth,” emphasised Augustin Kabuya.
In response to these accusations, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) had described these allegations as “baseless”.
In a statement signed by its permanent secretary, Ramazani Shadary, the PPRD denounced a “campaign of demonization” led by the current regime.
“Without the slightest proof, President Kabila is cited for a case he knows nothing about,” the statement stressed.
