President Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal is sheduled to arrive in Rwanda’s capital Kigali for the official opening of Africa’s first vaccine facility.
The facility in Rwanda seeks to press forward to making mRNA end-to-end vaccine manufacturing in Africa.
“This is happy moment. Africa is able to have these capabilities within the partnerships that have been forged and we are looking forward to working with BioNTech,” President Paul Kagame said previously after meeting with BioNTech CEO Uğur Şahin, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commision convened by the kENUP Foundation.
The meeting resulted in a joint communiqué affirming BioNTech’s intention to manufacture mRNA vaccines arising from its Malaria and Tuberculosis vaccine development programs on the African continent.
This initiative of Rwanda making mRNA end-to-end vaccine manufacturing in Africa, has come to fruition with the support of President von der Leyen, President Werner Hoyer of European Investment Bank.
