Patricia Scotland the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth on Friday virtually held a discussion with President Paul Kagame.
“The President, who is also the Commonwealth Chair-in-Office, was updated on ongoing Commonwealth activities,” the Presidency said.
Under Kagame’s tennure as Commonwealth Chair-in-Office, on 30 January , the Commonwealth Secretariat will hold a launch event at Marlborough House to mark the beginning of the Year of Youth 2023 – a seminal 12 months dedicated to action on Commonwealth-wide youth issues.
On February 7-9, the Commonwealth will host in Papua New Guinea a conference on tackling cybercrime in Pacific.
Later on 13 February, the Secretariat and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) will co-host a three-day workshop to train government officials from the Caribbean in developing sound legal frameworks that boost the digital economy.
Again on February 14, the Secretariat will convene a seminar in London on 14 February to discuss challenges and opportunities in reforming laws that disproportionately affect people living in poverty.
On March 13 Commonwealth Day will be observed among member states that belong to this organisation.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago will host the Commonwealth Youth Games from 4 to 11 August 2023.
Initially awarded the 2021 Commonwealth Youth Games in June 2019, the event was postponed due to the impact of covid-19 pandemic.
