President Kagame Receives Chinese Military Chief for Strategic Talks

President Kagame received Lt Gen Huang Xucong, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Central Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, along with his delegation, who are on a four-day official visit to Rwanda.

During their meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen the existing cooperation between the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Lt Gen Huang Xucong, who oversees China’s ground forces, also held discussions with Rwanda’s Minister of Defense, Juvenal Marizamunda, and the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga.

Their talks focused on deepening military ties between the two nations, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing security and defense strategies.

As part of their visit, Lt Gen Huang and his delegation toured key military installations in Rwanda, including the Gabiro Combat Training Centre in Gatsibo and the Gako Military Academy.

These visits underscored the importance of training and preparedness in the ongoing partnership between Rwanda and China.

The delegation also paid their respects at the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, honoring the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This gesture highlighted the importance of remembrance and the shared values of peace and reconciliation between the two nations.

Lt Gen Huang’s visit marks a significant step in the continued collaboration between the RDF and the PLA, emphasizing the role of military cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations between Rwanda and China.
