Rwanda President Paul Kagame arrived in Latvia on Monday for an official 3-day visit, according to a statement of the Baltic state.
“President Edgars Rinkevičs and President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame will discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, current security challenges in Africa and Europe, as well as cooperation in international organizations,” a statement issued by the Lativian presidency on Monday.
It adds, “during the visit of the President of Rwanda, a commemorative plaque dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda will be unveiled at the National Library of Latvia.”
President Kagame and his Latvian host Edgars Rinkēvič will hold a joint press conference in the capital Riga.
The Rwandan leader will also participate in the the solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument.
Latvia has a population of 696,593 inhabitants (2015) with a GDP per capita forecast to continuously increase between 2024 and 2029 by in total U$7,425.
After the fourteenth consecutive increasing year, the GDP per capita is estimated to reach U$31,619 and therefore a new peak in 2029.
Latvia’s defence industry is mostly focused on development of unmanned systems, cyber defence capabilities, and advanced communications technologies.
Rwanda is keenly interested in advancing its capabilities in use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military as the country sent a delegation to the recent Seoul international summit.
Latvia is a member of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), concerned with early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management, and post-conflict rehabilitation.
