Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Dr.Vincent Biruta has outlined the main catalysts for Africa’s Security challenges at the ongoing National Security Symposium (May 22-24) in the capital Kigali.
“Africa’s security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, organized crime, cyber threats, and intercommunal conflicts, are rooted in poverty, inequality, weak governance, and historical grievances linked to colonial legacy,” Dr Biruta said on Friday.
He underlined that addressing “these root causes is crucial for long-term solutions.”
Security experts, academicians, government officials and representatives from various agencies from 52 countries have been brainstorming at the symposium guided by the theme; “Contemporary Security Challenges: The African Perspective”.
“I am confident that the diverse expertise and perspectives represented in this symposium will enrich our discussions and contribute to the development of innovative strategies to enhance the much-needed peace and security on our continent,” said Rwanda’s Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda.
Deliberations explored subjects such as climate change in Africa, food security in Africa, youth radicalisation and international violent extremism, supply chain and debt trap and insecurity in Africa, global energy crisis and transitions, and compounding effects of global shocks on trade.
