Pope Francis disclosed on Wednesday that his predecessor, Benedict XVI, is in critical condition and called on the Christians to pray for the 95-year-old retired Pope.
“I would like to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict, who is in silence and is supporting the church. Remember him he is very ill, asking the Lord to console him and sustain him in this witness of love for the Church, until the end,” the Pope said while addressing the general audience.
According to the Vatican News, the health of Benedict XVI was in critical condition on Wednesday in what was attributed to as old age conditions.
Addressing the journalists, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, confirmed to the members of the press that the retired Pontiff was in aggravating circumstances but said he was being followed up by doctors.
“At the moment, he remains under control,” he said adding that Pope Emeritus is constantly monitored by medical doctors.
