Museveni Picks Nomination Forms, Sets US$500 Billion Economic Target for Uganda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has picked nomination forms to contest for both the NRM Presidential Flag Bearer and the position of National Chairman, while unveiling an ambitious plan to grow Uganda’s economy to US$500 billion within five years.

The announcement was made at the NRM Headquarters in Kyadondo, where Museveni formally signaled his intention to lead the party into the 2026 general elections.

Framing his bid around Uganda’s long-term development agenda, Museveni said the country has moved through five key stages of transformation since 1986 and is now poised for a major economic leap.

“Our target is to become a US$500 billion economy in the next five years,” he declared, tying the next phase of his leadership to rapid industrialization, infrastructure expansion, and regional integration.

Museveni’s re-entry into the race effectively consolidates his grip on the ruling party, with party organs expected to finalize internal processes in the weeks ahead. His message centered on economic continuity, political stability, and safeguarding the NRM’s legacy.
