On Wednesday December 14 at 8:00 pm, Morocco, Africa’s last hope at the ongoing Qatar World Cup will lock horns with France in the Semi-finals at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions have once again made history at the ongoing tournament after beating pre-match favorites and football heavy-weights Portugal on Saturday.
France clinched a 2-1 victory against England at the Al Bayt Stadium, with the two teams displaying a strong performance.
The North African team became the first Arab and African nation to reach the tournament’s semi-final, an achievement that has been widely celebrated across Africa and the Arab world.
The Moroccan squad managed to defy all odds and send home some of the tournament’s early favorites, including Belgium, which is ranked as FIFA’s second-best team in the world.
“We want to go down in history … with the mindset we’ve had from the start, with the quality of our performance,” said Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui.
Senegal’s President Macky Sall celebrated Morocco’s win against Portugal 1-0, “Historical! And fantastic! Bravo Morocco,” the president wrote on Twitter.
Colombian superstar Shakira also joined a growing list of celebrities commending Morocco’s eye-catching and historic win against Portugal.
“This time for Africa!! #WorldCup,” the superstar wrote on her Twitter.
Billionaire Elon Musk also congratulated Morocco in a tweet.
