Reports emerging from North Kivu indicate that the M23 fighters have already withdrawn from Kitchanga locality and some other areas they have been occupying.

However, the rebels are still positioned at Muongozi, Busumba and Kirumbu, around Mweso.

President Félix Tshisekedi has allowed the deployment of a contingent of Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) to support peacekeeping operations in the DRC.

The deal was reached after an exchange last Tuesday between Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and head Antonio, Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs and emissary of the President of the Republic Joao Lourenço.

According to an official press release from the Angolan Presidency, the main objective of the deployment of this contingent is to secure the areas where the M23 rebels are confined and to protect members of the ad hoc verification mechanism.
