Korea’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Jeong Woojin, has said that the friendship between Rwanda and the Republic of Korea has been growing stronger over time.
He made these remarks during a ceremony held to celebrate the deepening ties between Kigali and Seoul, which marked its annual occurrence.
Rwandans residing in the Republic of Korea, as well as Korean nationals in Rwanda, gathered for this event, held at M Hotel in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.
Ambassador Woojin mentioned that just a few days ago, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea visited Rwanda, accompanied by his Rwandan counterpart.
He said, “Rwanda and the Republic of Korea cooperate in various ways, and this partnership has two dimensions.”
In addition to this, Rwandans living in the Republic of Korea and those working at the Embassy created the Korea-Rwanda Alumni Association (KORAA).
The association was established in March 2015 and now has over 1,000 members.
Delphine Mukashema, who leads the KORAA, expressed that the organization plays a significant role in enhancing the friendship between Rwanda and the Republic of Korea.
One of the officials at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Felix Ngirabakunzi, noted that the agency is aiding Rwandans in various sectors, including the construction of a rehabilitation center, support to Rwanda Revenue Authority through Electronic Billing Machines (EBM) implementation, and more.
KOICA also contributes to education by constructing smart classrooms and investing in the development of agriculture, such as rice and soybean production, as well as promoting fruit cultivation.
Additionally, it was mentioned that the upcoming projects in the pipeline for KOICA will aim at consolidating past achievements.
Members of KORAA are preparing for their annual general meeting for the year 2023, and this event will serve as a key moment to assess the activities carried out over the past year and set goals for the upcoming year.
KORAA will also continue to collaborate with Rwanda to empower its workforce and communities by sharing valuable knowledge and skills.
