The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has apprehended an official responsible for infrastructure activities in Kirehe District, alongside his accomplice, Sindikubwabo Evariste.
The two were caught red-handed soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rwf500,000 from a local contractor.
The incident occurred in the context of a larger bribe scheme, wherein the officials had demanded a total of Rwf21 million to award a contract.
The timely intervention by RIB officials led to the arrest of the culprits, ensuring that such corrupt practices are swiftly addressed.
According to Dr. Thierry Murangira, the RIB Spokesperson, both individuals are currently detained at the Kirehe RIB station, and their case file has been forwarded to the Prosecution for further legal action.
He expressed gratitude to citizens who continue to provide crucial information about corruption.
This collaboration between the public and law enforcement is seen as vital in the ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption from Rwanda.
The bureau reiterated its commitment to transparency and integrity in public service, urging the community to remain vigilant and report any instances of corruption.
This arrest serves as a stark reminder that corrupt practices will not be tolerated and will be met with stringent legal consequences, the RIB spokesperson said.
