After two years of intensive renovation works, Amahoro National Stadium has been transformed into an ultra-modern facility that has been opened up for public use.
President Paul Kagame, on Saturday was given a guided tour of the mega facility which later hosted a friendly game between APR FC and Rayon Sports FC.
During his visit, the President met with young football players from the FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain Academies in Rwanda.
The stadium has seen its seating capacity expanded from 25,000 to over 45,000 seats.
Renovation works on the Amahoro National Stadium kicked-off on 31st August 2022.
“The playground is built in a new way. The Amahoro National Stadium also has shops, restaurants and bars, which allow it to function even in the absence of sports activities or other events,” said Eng. Harouna Nshimiyimana, Project Manager.
Nshimiyimana says the Stadium complies with all international standards.
It has football and rugby pitches of international dimensions and an athletics track. The total project cost is approximately U$165 million.
The stadium has a circumference of 800m and 30m of length and not including the roof, it is 5 levels (G+5).
