Kabila Stadium Vandalised As Former Leader Faces Treason Charges

Kabila Stadium has recently suffered vandalism and theft

The Joseph Kabila stadium in Kindu, Maniema has suffered a series of vandalism and looting perpetrated by people considered to be linked to the powerful in government.

According to details emerging from Minister of Justice, Georges Kasongo in the provincial government of Maniema, critical equipment, including barriers separating the public from the playing area and air conditioning motors, was recently stolen.

Kasongo said in a press briefing on Thursday that he suspected a security agent identified as Zakune, who was caught red-handed while trying to move the separators to a location that is still unknown.

“Elements of the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) intervened and fined him. We quickly understood that there had been complicity,” he said.

According to him, it could be a well-organized network that operates with the complicity, sometimes with the guilty silence of some members of the stadium staff.

Kabila Faces Treason Charges

Fromer President Joseph Kabila is currently in hot soup following an aggressive move to lift his immunity and face treason charges being fast tracked by the Kinshasa regime.

A plenary session in Senate convened behind closed doors on Thursday, May 15 to examine the legality of stripping off Immunity of the former President.

The indictment, issued by the Auditor General, particularly targets the senator for life, who is accused in particular of leading the AFC movement’s rebellion against the regime in place.

A special committee has been established to examine the feasibility of the Senate lifting Senator Joseph Kabila’s immunities.
