Heavy rain on Tuesday killed more than 120 people in DRC’s capital Kinshasa forcing President Félix Tshisekedi to cut short his US trip where he had gone to attend the US-Africa leaders summit.
“Deeply saddened and saddened by the loss of many of our compatriots and the resulting desolation in the families,” President Félix Tshisekedi said adding he will return to Kinshasa on Thursday.
President Tshisekedi has declared three days of national mourning including rehabilitating the main road leading to the Kongo-Central province, the Matadi road cut off after the heavy rain.
He has issued clear instructions on the care of victims and especially for appropriate measures to be taken so that such a disaster does not happen again.
