Preparations are nearing completion for the forthcoming 3rd South Summit scheduled to take place (January 21 to 24) in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
Themed ‘Leaving No One Behind’, the Summit seeks to boost South-South cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and digital economy, among other areas.
The Second South Summit convened in Doha, Qatar, in 2005. The First South Summit took place in Havana, Cuba, in 2000. In practice with the G-77’s principle of geographic rotation, this Summit is scheduled to convene in Africa.
According to details emerging from the organisers, government of China has generously donated 70 vehicles to Uganda, playing a crucial role in transporting delegates during the NAM conference from January 15 to 23, 2024, and the 3rd South Summit scheduled for January 21 to 24, 2024, at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.
This donation increases the total number of vehicles designated for conference use to 170. The Government of Uganda plans to acquire an additional 30 vehicles. Earlier, China had donated 70 vehicles to Uganda for the South Summit, initially scheduled for 2020 but postponed to 2024.
In Kampala, the 134 Member States will reiterate the message of solidarity, unity, and complementarity of the South and speak with a unified voice to achieve their common goals and objectives.
By hosting the Third South Summit, the Republic of Uganda, under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni inaugurates a new agenda for a prosperous, united and stronger South.
