The music, cabaret, acrobatics, arts and crafts, entertainment for children and much more have suddenly been suspended at the annual “Festival of Diversity” in German’s Solingen City.
The festival which kicked off on Friday was supposed to go through until Sunday but has been called off after an unidentified attacker weilding a knife killed a woman and two men on Friday.
To mark the 650th anniversary of the city of Solingen, a “Festival of Diversity” began on Friday.
On Saturday night, the city announced that the celebrations for the city’s anniversary were completely over. All program items planned for this Saturday and Sunday were canceled.
According to current information, the suspect is on the run. The police are conducting a manhunt.
The police currently have no evidence that multiple perpetrators were involved in the knife attack.
“We are currently assuming that it was one person,” said spokesman Alexander Kresta. All witness statements that the police have been able to take so far point to this. “We are not aware of any other people.”
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) also arrived at the scene. He took a look at the situation on site and warned against speculation. “Out of nowhere, someone is randomly stabbing people. We can’t say anything about the person or the motive,” said Reul. There are simply no reliable facts.
A large police force was involved in the search for the suspected perpetrator. The Solingen police also received reinforcements from other parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, a police spokeswoman said.
