Former Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé is reacting well to medication as he battles respiratory infection.
According to details, Pelé is currently booked in at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo.
Pelé “has had a good response to treatments for the respiratory infection, showing no worsening of the clinical condition in the last 24 hours” the hospital said on Saturday.
Pelé, 82, was admitted to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo last Tuesday for a reassessment of treatment for colon cancer, detected in September 2021, but ended up suffering a respiratory infection, “treated with antibiotics” , explained the medical team, adding that his general condition is improving.
Several Brazilian media speculate that the health status of the three-time world champion has deteriorated, despite the fact that Pelé’s children have assured in recent days that their father’s situation is not serious.
Through his account on the social network Instagram, Pelé said, on Thursday, that it was a “monthly, routine visit” and thanked all those who have supported him and the best wishes.
Since being operated on for cancer, Pelé has gone through a cycle of chemotherapy sessions that forced him to go to the hospital several times to closely monitor his evolution.
The Torcida Jovem do Santos, one of the main organized supporters of the Brazilian club in which Pelé was immortalized, called today a vigil for the health of the three-time world champion, in front of the hospital where he is hospitalized.
