Floods in Kinshasa Kills 33

DRC’s Ministry of the Interior has announced that a total of 33 people have died as a result of flooding of N’djili River caused by heavy rains that have hit the capital, Kinshasa.

Government further said that the number of victims could rise as rescue teams comb through affected Kinshasa neighborhoods and municipalities. Meanwhile, displaced families have been temporarily sheltered at facilities of the Tata Raphaël stadium.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, Jacquemain Shabani noted that as of April 5, there were “23 deaths, 46 people hospitalized and several houses washed away in the communes of Mont-Ngafula, Ngaliema and Barumbu as well as the interruption of the supply of drinking water in some districts of the city-province of Kinshasa,”

The following day, April 6, “10 deaths, more than 200 households flooded in the municipalities of Limete, Matete and Masina and road traffic was interrupted for a day on Lumumba Boulevard near the N’djili Bridge.”

On Monday.Traffic, which had been interrupted on Lumumba Boulevard, resumed but the Regideso Limete factory still under water.
