In a solemn ceremony held at the Hotel Ledger Bangui, the Diplomatic Mission in the Central African Republic, in collaboration with the Rwandan community, commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994.
The event, held under the theme ‘Remember-Unite-Renew’, was attended by notable figures, including the President of the Central African Republic, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the country.
In his remarks, the President reflected on the significance of the occasion, stating, “We are commemorating this 30th anniversary, but we are also celebrating 30 years of unity and resilience.”
The commemoration served as a platform to honor the victims, comfort the survivors, and pay tribute to Rwandans who put an end to the genocide and liberated their country.
The head of the Diplomatic Mission in the Central African Republic, Olivier Kayumba, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The commemoration of the genocide is a global framework to honor the victims, comfort the survivors and pay tribute to the Rwandans who put an end to the genocide and liberated the country.”
Capturing the resilience of the Rwandan people, Kayumba quoted President Paul Kagame, saying, “Today, all Rwandans have overcome fear. And nothing can be worse than what we experienced. It is a nation of 14 million inhabitants, ready to face any attempt to make us go back.”
Ernest MADA, the Central African Minister in charge of the government secretariat, saluted the achievements of Rwanda in all sectors after the genocide against the Tutsi.
He also appreciated the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, which have allowed the Central African Republic to restore peace and security.
This commemorative event served as a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of the Rwandan people, and the importance of remembering the past to build a better future for all.
