Great Britain has imposed sanctions against the leadership of the colony on Yamal, where opposition leader Alexei Navalny died. London demanded the release of Mr. Navalny’s body to his family.
Sanctions were imposed against the head of IK-3 in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Vadim Kalinin, and his deputies – Sergei Korzhov, Vasily Vydrin, Vladimir Pilipchik, Alexander Golyakov, Alexander Obraztsov.
The colony’s leadership will be prohibited from entering the UK, and sanctions also include freezing of assets.
The British Foreign Office noted that the kingdom was the first to introduce anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the death of the oppositionist.
According to London, the colony authorities are to blame for the deterioration of Mr. Navalny’s well-being.
It is alleged that the politician was often kept in solitary confinement, and he also “had to walk in -32°C.” In addition, Alexei Navalny was allegedly denied medical care.
On February 16, the FSIN department for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug announced the death of Alexei Navalny in correctional colony No. 3 in the Yamal village of Kharp.
According to the service, the oppositionist felt ill after a walk and lost consciousness. Five days later, the body of Alexei Navalny was not released to relatives.
The mother of the deceased, Lyudmila Navalnaya, filed a complaint with the Salekhard City Court. It will be considered behind closed doors on March 4.
