"\nThe African Union is expected to call on rich nations to honour their promises to finance the continents efforts to tackle climate challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThis Month the Group of 20 nations will convene in Bali, Indonesia and the African Union will have a seat at the table with some of the world\u2019s biggest polluters as it confronts the fallout from global warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\nG20 nations are responsible for 80% of global emissions, while Africa accounts for less than 4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe AU aims to use the opportunity to call on rich nations to honor their promises to tackle climate change, including providing developing countries with U$100 billion in financing each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\nMacky Sall, the president of Senegal who holds the AU\u2019s rotating chairmanship, said, \u201cPledges haven\u2019t been fulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cThere have been some efforts, but they\u2019ve been below our expectations.\u201d When the AU \u201cjoins the G20, we\u2019ll be able to speak regularly to our partners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSouth Africa is currently the only African member of the G20, and Sall expects the AU\u2019s accession to the G20 to be approved at that meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\nIn an address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, he lamented Africa\u2019s exclusion from groups such as the G20 and the Security Council, saying the continent needed to be represented at forums whose decisions affected its 1.4 billion people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n"
