A group of younger members of the Congolese parliament want to compel the African Union and European Union to slap Rwanda with sanctions.
This decision was arrived at during a retreat that brought together over 90 national deputies in Kolwezi, in Lualaba province on (March 10 -13).
During the meeting, these MPs grouped under the Young Parliamentarians Network (RJP), conducted an assessment of work accomplished by parliament.
They also listed their legislative priorities and objectives for the parliamentary session for March 2026.
These young lawmakers also discussed the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Discussions also explored the Washington Agreements, signed on June 27, 2025. Participants considered it an important framework for the search for lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.
They also analysed the US sanctions announced on March 2, 2026, against four Rwandan figures.
They urged the European Union and the African Union to adopt similar sanctions.
Marie-Thérèse Fifi Masuka Saïni the Governor of Lualaba Province participated in the retreat held at Lualaba Provincial Assembly.
