La Francophonie organization has called for respect for women’s Rights with a belief that they illuminate the way towards more peaceful and development-oriented societies.
“Let’s reaffirm our commitment to promoting and defending them so that every woman and every girl can live freely, learn, create, and shape her future,” OLF said on Sunday.
This call comes at a time the countries around the world are celebrating the international Women’s Rights day annually observed on March 8th.
Alongside its member States and governments, the OIF said that it acts to ensure that this ambition takes shape throughout the Francophone world.
Celebrations of International Women’s Rights day seeks to honour women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements while advocating for gender equality, reproductive rights, and an end to violence.
The 2026 theme emphasizes accelerating the fight for equity, addressing the pay gap, and supporting women in conflict zones.
This years celebrations highlight the need for action against gender-based violence, narrowing the gender pay gap, and supporting women’s leadership.
Rooted in early 20th-century labor movements in Europe and North America, with the first National Women’s Day held in the U.S. in 1909.
