A Ugandan Engineer was driving from Kampala city to Nakawuka on Saturday night at about 9Pm. Nakawuka is located in Wakiso district one of the immediate districts surrounding the capital Kampala.

Along the way he was stopped by armed men in military uniform similar to that worn by the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) usually in charge of protecting the Head of state.

They ordered him to stop the car. He was told that he had stolen car, “We have been looking for you. You stole this car.,” he said as he recounted his ordeal.

However, the engineer denied saying that he was the rightful owner of the car.He was forcefully plucked out of the car and ordered to kneel down. After thoroughly beating him, he was ordered to surrender his Smart phone, ATM cards and laptop.

As if that was not enough, the armed men demanded the engineer to insert a pin code to unlock the phone. The panicking Engineer complied and was also ordered to transfer money to other mobile phone numbers they read to him.

After that moment, the armed men tied up the Engineer with ropes and bundled him up and forced him into the car boot which they slammed and drove for minutes to another direction and stopped.

They removed their victim from the car boot, untied him and told him to kneel just on the edge of a ditch a few metres from the highway.

One of the armed men cocked his gun ready to finish off the engineer. However, as luck would fly around, a car approached from a distance with full lights. The armed men possibly feared that they had been noticed.

The engineer also fell in the ditch in which there were two lifeless bodies of possibly other victims.

The traumatized engineer said he found himself at the police station but doesn’t remember how he reached there. Possibly he could have been helped by people in the car that approached the scene or by other passersby.

Highway Robbers are Back to Work

Uganda Police Force confirmed on Sunday that they impounded a taxi registration number UBL 572K, linked to alleged highway robberies.

The Taxi and it’s occupants were found in Masaka district and escorted to Kampala’s Nateete Police Station to facilitate investigations.

According to Police preliminary reports, the taxi intercepted a female victim, coerced her into opening the door, and falsely informed her that she had knocked someone dead at Namungona Roundabout along the Northern Bypass, a deceptive tactic believed to be used to steal victims’ vehicles.

Following this incident, Uganda police conducted a coordinated search operation for the vehicle, which culminated in its successful interception and impoundment in Masaka district about 3hours drive from the capital Kampala.
