Taarifa Investigative Desk has established that a coalition of rebels AFC/M23, Twirwaneho, RED Tabara and Gumino have today engaged in violent gun battle against the government troops and allies as both sides seek to have a grip on Minembwe.
Minembwe, is strategically located in the High Plateaus of the Fizi territory (South Kivu). For the past several days it has endured violent fighting.
2nd Lt. Mbuyi Reagan, the spokesperson for Sukola South operations in South Kivu, the army has been fighting for five days to regain control of Minembwe.
Minembwe is, considered the stronghold of the Twirwaneho and their allies.
“The fighting is progressing between us, the loyalist army, and the M23-AFC rebels allied with the Twirwaneho, Gumino, and RED Tabara groups.”
He added that the loyalists final destination is Minembwe.
“Once this locality is bypassed, further operations can be organized. The enemy is losing manpower. We have inflicted enormous losses, like yesterday when we neutralized more than 35 fighters ,” he told a local radio on Monday.
