Taarifa has reliably learned that the health condition of former prime minister of Burundi Gen. Bunyoni Alain-Guillaume is rapidly deteriorating from a maximum prison facility.

Gen. Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni has been in jail for the past two years.

President Evariste Ndayishimiye prompted for his arrest accusing him of attempting to assassinate the president.

However, by Sunday afternoon, unconfirmed reports indicated that the former premier (2020-2022) had been transferred to a private Kira hospital for urgent handling.

“For the past two months, Gen Bunyoni has been receiving treatment in Gitega Province,”a source said on condition of anonymity.

The former premier who is on a life sentence has since October 9th been, at the Gitega Regional Hospital in the capital Gitega.

While at Gitega hospital, the General collapsed unconscious on October 12th.

“A team of nurses and doctors had been specifically assigned to monitor his condition,” a source said.

The hospital facility and his room are under surveillance by security apparatus reinforced by police and National Intelligence Service (SNR) agents.

Born in 1972, Gen. Bunyoni was sentenced in December to life in prison on a set of charges: plotting to topple the regime, using witchcraft to threaten the president’s life, undermining national security, destabilizing the economy and illegal enrichment.

However, before court, Gen Bunyoni pleaded not guilty to all counts.

“There was a lack of “material evidence and an absence of legal elements” to support the case against him,” a journalist who attended the session said.
