The Federal Republic of Somalia has strongly reaffirmed that its sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity are absolute and non-negotiable, in line with the Provisional Constitution of Somalia, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Office of the Prime Minister said Somalia is a single, indivisible sovereign state and that no external actor has the authority or standing to alter its unity or territorial configuration.
Any declaration, recognition, or arrangement that seeks to undermine this reality, the statement said, is null, void, and without any legal or political effect under international law.
The Somali government said it categorically and unequivocally rejects Israel’s decision to formally recognize Somaliland, following the signing of an agreement by Israel purporting to recognize the northern region as an independent entity.
It described the move as a deliberate and unlawful attack on Somalia’s sovereignty, stressing that Somaliland remains an integral, inseparable, and inalienable part of the sovereign territory of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Mogadishu further warned against the establishment of any foreign military bases or security arrangements on Somali territory, saying such moves could draw Somalia into proxy conflicts and import regional or international hostilities into the Horn of Africa.
The government cautioned that illegitimate actions of this nature threaten regional peace and stability across the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the wider Middle East.
It warned that heightened political and security tensions could create conditions exploitable by terrorist groups such as Al-Shabaab and ISIS, undermining ongoing peace and security efforts.
In the same statement, Somalia reiterated its principled and unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination.
The government reaffirmed its rejection of occupation, forced displacement, demographic engineering, and settlement expansion, saying it would never accept a situation in which Palestinians are rendered stateless.
Despite its firm tone, Somalia said it remains committed to constructive and principled engagement with the international community based on mutual respect, adherence to international law, and regional cooperation.
It said it would pursue all necessary diplomatic, political, and legal measures to defend its sovereignty, unity, and internationally recognized borders.
The government also called on Somali citizens to remain united, vigilant, and resolute in defending the nation’s territorial integrity, while urging states and international partners to respect international law, uphold the principles of non-interference, and act responsibly in the interest of peace, stability, and security in the Horn of Africa.
