Through the voice of Bakuramutsa, the memory of Masisi—a land once celebrated as a beacon of Kivu—has come alive again.
This revival is inspired by Masisi, Banyarwanda, a landmark book by Dr. Gaston Rwasamanzi, which chronicles the rich history, resilience, and cultural identity of a territory that shaped the heart of eastern Congo.
The initiative, known as Masisi Thursdays, seeks to bridge past and present, ensuring that the stories of this remarkable land are not lost to time.
It serves as both a cultural homage and a call to action, reminding today’s generation of a legacy that once illuminated Kivu and the Congo.
“If the flame has weakened, it is not extinguished,” say organizers. “It simply awaits the present and future generations to rekindle it.”
The gatherings aim to celebrate Masisi’s historical significance while confronting the challenges that have dimmed its light in recent decades—conflict, displacement, and political neglect.
With renewed commitment, advocates of Masisi Thursdays envision a future where the territory reclaims its stature as a hub of progress and pride—a guiding light not just for Kivu, but for the entire Democratic Republic of Congo.
