RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo has called for urgent investment in inclusive workforce development to prepare the transport sector for the future.
Speaking at the Global Aviation and Maritime Symposium (GAMS) in Singapore on July 13, Makolo emphasized the need to align education, training, and digital innovation with the evolving demands of aviation and maritime industries.
Makolo was addressing a high-level Ministerial and Industry Roundtable held under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Transport: People, Technology, and Policy.” The session brought together global decision-makers to explore how to strengthen sustainability, resilience, and innovation across the sector.
“We need to start preparing that workforce today. What we have on our hands is talent and opportunity, but if we don’t take concrete steps to prepare them, the industry will grow without creating a place for them,” she said.
Makolo stressed that shaping a more resilient and equitable future for transport will depend on inclusive policies that prioritize people as much as progress.
She highlighted the importance of fostering diversity, expanding access to skills, and embracing digitalisation as key components of long-term industry reform.
Her contribution reinforced Rwanda’s growing influence in international aviation policy and RwandAir’s role in promoting a forward-looking, inclusive approach to global mobility.
