A High-Level Forum of Women Leaders has convened at the Kiriri Presidential Palace in Bujumbura, the commercial capital of Burundi.

According to organisers, the 7th edition of the forum (November 4-5) has attracted high-profile personalities.

The First Lady of the Central African Republic, Brigitte Touadéra (pictured above) arrived in Bujumbura on November 3.

Burundi’s First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye has been busy receiving her counterparts upon arrival at Melchior Ndadaye Airport.

Meanwhile several other women leaders are already in the country for the gathering.

Delegates at the forum seek to examine and address the challenges that limit the advancement and empowerment of women.

Deliberations are being guided by the theme; “Empowering young girls, a strategic lever for the development of human capital and strengthening resilience to climate change.”

The forum provides a platform for discussions on strategies to promote women’s empowerment, combat gender inequalities and gender-based violence, and enhance climate resilience.

Dr. Liliane Nkengurutse Executive Secretary of Burundi’s office of First Lady says the forum also aims to mobilize various actors around the obstacles to the fulfillment of women and girls, and to encourage concrete commitments in favor of their empowerment.

According to her the forum features the official launch of the “Building Resilience” campaign by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (#OPDAD) and the International Trade Fair for Women’s Entrepreneurship of the Economic Community of Central African States (#CEEAC).
