Taarifa Investigative Desk has reliably learned that President Felix Tshisekedi has ordered an immediate chopping of Bodyguards assigned to FARDC Generals.
The order comes at a time senior officers are increasingly defecting to the Front For Refoundation of Nation (FRN) a rebel movement led by former President Joseph Kabila.
According to initial reports,
“The FARDC General Staff is requesting that Generals with more than 14 bodyguards return the excess personnel along with their weapons and ammunition,” said a source familiar with the matter at the Army headquarters in the capital Kinshasa.
The source added, “Some [Generals] now retain two bodyguards, others three or four.”
Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) have recently suffered significant defections to the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) headed by Kabila a staunch critic of President Tshisekedi regime.
Brigadier General François Kamanzi (pictured above) defected to the FRN rebels movement on October 27. Later, Brigadier General Germain Katanga in Goma joined the rebels.
Additional reports cite senior figures like Colonel Dem Umba Ndolo Ghislain and Lieutenant Lemba Lula Arnold.
Meanwhile, about 700 soldiers including mid-level officers and lower ranking abandoned their deployment zones and joined the FRN-led rebellion.
Kabila compares Tshisekedi management of the state as though a clan leader, submerged in tribalism, corruption and mismanagement of state.
