Uvira City is experiencing a massive build-up of foreign troops and mercenaries as fears mount about Kabila rebels surrounding the outskirts of the south Kivu capital.

According to local reports, foreign soldiers and fighters are said to have arrived in Uvira from Kalemie and neighbouring Burundi.

Having been outgunned by the advancing FRN rebels whose intentions are to seize Uvira City, Burundian forces, foreign mercenaries, FDLR, Wazalendo militias, and FARDC retreated to Uvira and are getting more reinforcements from Burundi.

The FRN rebels have been leading the offensive for five consecutive days against several positions of the regular armed forces.

Following repeated assaults, the rebels managed to take control of an advanced army position located on the outskirts of Abangya.

By Thursday Abala village was captured by the rebels.

“Katogota and the port of Kalundu have already been liberated; now Lake Tanganyika is controlled by the FRN and we can clearly see Bujumbura,” a source on ground told Taarifa Investigative Desk.
